11/16/17 Book Fair Family Night, GCS Library
The FEN meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm in the school library. Refreshments will be served and provided by member volunteers. Child care at the monthly meetings will be provided in the school gym. If anyone would like to bring any new topics to the meeting, please send an email to GardenCityFEN@gmail.com 48 hours prior to the scheduled meeting so it can be added to the agenda.
Treasurer’s Report: The checkbook balance is $6,214.54. Fundraising:
- The Candy Bar Fundraiser collected $3,877, with $800 still outstanding. A grand total of $5,500 was received in donations.
Some feedback received was to not have any candy bars containing nuts; liked the opportunity to donate without having to take a box; appreciated being able to take home the candy bar boxes on the night of Open House and not being sent home with the students.
- After school Lego club and Smashbook deposit of $1,440 in October.
- Color Run Harvest Fest - November 4th (please see attached flyer): 81 students have registered so far
$4,155 has been raised online and handed in as of Wednesday 10/18
Color Run Registration is from 10:00-10:55. Start time is 11:00.
Lots of volunteers are needed to make this dual event successful. Any teenagers or older siblings of a
GCS student would be ideal.
The cost of the Harvest Fest is $5 for anyone who did not raise $ for the Color Run
FEN to make a 70% profit on donations over $7,500
FEN membership voted on making a donation to bring the balance to $7,500 only if GCS would profit.
Numbers are being reviewed.
FEN Bylaws were revised and reviewed at tonight’s meeting. Executive Board changes include:
- The Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary positions were combined
- The Principal has been removed from the Executive Board and will serve in an Ex-Officio role. The
Principal will not have voting right.
- The Fundraising Chairperson was added to the Executive Board to keep the board to seven.
2017-2018 Budget: Teacher Stipends were discussed and it was decided to increase this amount to $2100 to include all classrooms, special education teachers and itinerants. The $500 increase was taken from the Teacher Appreciation allocation.
Box Tops & Spirit Day 10/27/17: Stephanie Santucci, Garden City School’s Box Top Program Coordinator, confirmed the amount we will receive for box tops earned over the summer is $208.40 and for September was $133.50. Friday, October 27th is the last opportunity to get Box Tops in before the first submission of November 1st. Students can bring their box tops in an envelope and leave it in their classroom collection box or envelope. Friday, October 27th will also be Mustache Day as a combination spirit day/box top return day! As a reminder our school earns 10¢ for every Box Top turned in and all money received from Box Tops will be used exclusively for school improvement projects!
Operation Holiday Cheer 11/1-11/9: Garden City School FEN is hosting a Halloween candy collection to send to our troops again this year. Kids simply bring in leftover Halloween candy (no chocolate except for M&Ms) between Wednesday, November 1st – Thursday, November 9th and place in respective bins in the school’s main foyer. Children are also invited to make cards thanking our troops for their service at the next FEN meeting, November 16th. Cardstock will be provided. See the attached flyer for more information
Scholastic Book Fair 11/14-11/17: The Scholastic Book Fair kicks off on Tuesday November 14th! During the week students will have the opportunity to shop in school with their classes and we are looking for volunteers to help the students shop. The evening book fair is on Thursday, November 17th in the school library. Please use the signup link http://signup.com/go/QsVPTyU if you are interested in volunteering to help set up on the evening of November 9th, help students purchase books during the day or assist at the evening book fair on the 17th. A BCI check is needed for all volunteers.
After School Programming: If you have a completed BCI check, additional parent volunteers are needed to help with the LEGO Club on Tuesday’s. If you can help, please contact FEN at GardenCityFEN@gmail.com.
The annual Family Bowling Night that occurs in January is in need of a chairperson to make arrangements with Town Hall Lanes, etc. If you are interested please contact FEN at GardenCityFEN@gmail.com.
